Ladies Kennel Association 2009 Critique

Thank you to my exhibitors for a wonderful entry of quality Deerhounds, particularly the younger bitches. It seems the breed is on the up for quality if this is a typical cross section of the breed. I shall watch a number of them, in the future, with interest.

PD (7, 3) - 1 Parsons & McKinnon’s Claonaiglen Lochan A promising puppy. Good masculine head and expression, well laid shoulders and strong hindquarters. Moved well for a puppy. Should have a bright future as he matures. 2 Spence & Heathcote’s Hyndsight Riddick within Shagiead Another promising youngster. Not quite as settled as 1, but with excellent construction and substance for his age. 3 Blackford & Morrissey’s Glenmorlich Catch the Wind to Hartvalley

JD (4, 2) 1 Cartmell’s Cusidh Righ Innse Gall A good upstanding masculine dog, with lovely head and expression. Strong neck and well laid shoulder. Good length. Powerful hindquarters and on the move. 2 Wilson’s Hamiltonhill Fred D Mercury Not as masculine as 1, but still a nice dog. Correct construction. Moved well.

PGD (6, 1) 1 McLoughlin’s Graizelund Rock and Roll of Glenhaigh Pale silver dog of very nice type standing and on the move. Good in shoulder and hindquarters. Very elastic on the move. 2 Adams Ardneish Lohengrin A darker coloured dog, not quite the length in loin of the winner, but good head, neat ears and generally well constructed. In good, hard, muscular condition. 3 Francis & Blatchford’s Cloweswood Acer of Peopleton

LD (5) 1 & Res CC Hawkins’ Kwaricott Asclepius A strongly built, and correctly constructed dog hound. Covered a lot of ground standing and on the move due to his excellent front and rear constructions. A good harsh coat, shown in excellent order. Moved very well. 2 Barter’s Brutus Fraxinus of Ehlaradawn A little more workmanlike with particularly strong quarters and feet. In good body and condition, but lacking the furnishings of 1. Moved well. 3 Dockree & Trotman’s Regalflight Princequillo of Penherald

OD (5, 1) What a very nice class of Deerhounds 1 CC & BOB Helps’ Ch Greyfriars Gillie of Beardswood. Very lovely dog standing, masculine head, powerful neck going into well laid shoulders, correct front, powerful body and ribcage. Lovely length of loin and powerful hindquarters. Excelled on the move. 2 Girling’s Pyefleet Rollo A dog I’ve judged before as a puppy. A strong, powerful masculine Deerhound in hard muscular condition. Has all the essentials, but not so co-operative today, on the move. 3 Day's Demerlay Dorian Grey at Celticmoon

PB (13, 1) A fantastic class of puppy bitches, many of very good quality.

1 & Best Puppy Mansell & Duddell’s Killoeter Pieris at Canerikie 11 months old, of excellent type. So steady on the move for a youngster. Beautiful feminine head and expression, long neck, well laid shoulder and strong front. Just the right length powerful hindquarters. This puppy should have a very bright future. 2 Parsons & McKinnon’s Claonaiglen Buie A very raw baby, but with all the essentials you would expect at her age. Particularly well shaped in body, and as settled as you would expect for her age. Another stunning puppy. 3 Buswell’s Glenmorlich Just for Fun

JB (4) 1 & Res CC Platt’s Charbonnel Fliss A really beautiful young bitch with mouth watering head and expression. Correct front, body and hind constructions. Lovely spring in her step. 2 Cartmell’s Cusidh Perchance to Dream Darker in colour, and not so co-operative with her handler. A lot to like, but unfortunate to meet the winner. 3 Trotman’s Stainlonan Kulang of Penherald

PGB (11, 2) 1 Parson’s & McKinnon’s Claonaiglen Mallie A very nice bitch of not the biggest type, but very well constructed and beautifully feminine. Powerful on the move. A truly harsh coat and excellent muscular condition. 2 Helps Beardswood Octavia Another beautiful bitch of larger type, excellent in many ways but just preferred the length of 1. Shown in good coat, and excellent condition. 3 Owen & Brodie’s Wolfcastle Efa

LB (6) 1 & CC Mansell & Duddell’s Canerikie Coco Chanel Truly beautiful and feminine bitch, with no sign of exaggeration. Feminine head, good neck shoulder and front construction. Just the right length, with powerful hindquarters. Moved with great drive and presence. 2 Reynolds’ Wickwar White Lace A little darker in colour, but still an excellent bitch. Many of the attributes of the winner, but not quite as purposeful on the move, today. 3 Hird’s Cloweswood Scilla

OB (3, 1) 1 Owen & Brodie’s Ch Marandike Ebonys Choice to Wolfscastle A very worthy Champion with much to like about her, lost out today to younger competition. 2 Cartmell & Cartmell’s Drawing Down the Moon to Cusidh A very feminine bitch of nice type, well constructed, but unfortunate to meet the winner.
